After 15 years as an art educator in Syracuse, including 11 as a high school art teacher, Sheri
resigned from teaching, sold her house,
half her belongings, and moved to
Frederick, Maryland -- a city she had once passed through during a road trip in
the 90s. She
did not
know anyone there, but the historical architecture, art scene, and liberal nature of the
city made it a desirable
destination.
While in Maryland, she landed a job as a multimedia assistant for the
Frederick News-Post and worked with online photo and video news
media. She got her big break
as a videographer
when a police chase ended with a flipped vehicle outside the
newspaper
office while she
was the only one on hand with a video camera!
Her freelance work included shooting and editing video for an independently produced art
documentary that made it to the Smithsonian
in Washington, DC. She worked as a graphic designer and photographer for a local politician during his campaign and for the
West Side Arts Foundation in exchange for a shared art studio on West 2nd Street.
Sheri decided to move back to New York and relocated to Ithaca in 2007, where she is employed as a web editor by Cornell University
and works as an artist and freelance web designer
out of her Fall Creek studio. She is
cofounder of the local art group, Green Valley Artists,
and
spends most of her free time enjoying the Ithaca
music and art
scene. She has a B.A. in fine art from Potsdam
College and an M.S. in
art education from
Syracuse University.
